On Second Thought...

Apparently, some of us do get second chances.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) A man who survived a 200-foot leap from the Sunshine Skyway Bridge says once was enough.

Right before impact I realized that this was a bad idea,'' said Hanns Jones, a 35-year-old inventor. He has been under 24-hour supervision at Bayfront Medical Center since his attempted suicide on May 30.

In free fall, at first he felt like a bird in flight, he said, calmly watching the sun's rays cut through the clouds. Then, as the water drew nearer, Jones felt his muscles tense, bracing for a fatal impact.

He crashed feet first into the water. The force ripped his clothes from his body. He briefly lost consciousness and thought he was dead.

As he surged to the surface, his 17-month-old son flashed into his mind and Jones managed to swim about 40 yards to rocks.
